Freelance Career Opportunities

Daily Transcription offers multiple independent contractor (1099) positions for transcribers, translators, captioners, and editors. Roles are part-time, remote, and flexible. Work volume varies depending on demand.


1. Translator

  • Requirements: Native-level English + another language, CAT tools, 1+ year experience, background in legal/medical/technical/literary fields preferred.
  • Hours: 2–30 hrs/week
  • Experience: 1–2 yrs
  • Pay: $120–$480 per audio/video hour (varies by language & format).

2. General Transcriber

  • Requirements: Native English, 50+ WPM typing, transcription software, timecoding, proofreading, follow formats, accept QC feedback.
  • Hours: 10–30 hrs/week
  • Experience: 1–2 yrs
  • Pay: $45–$66 per audio hour.

3. AI Editor

  • Role: Edit AI-generated transcripts into polished, accurate text.
  • Requirements: Excellent grammar/punctuation, research unknown words, use transcription software, proofread.
  • Hours: 10–30 hrs/week
  • Experience: 1–2 yrs
  • Pay: $60–$90 per audio hour.

4. Medical Transcriber

  • Requirements: Native English, 50+ WPM, transcription software, strong knowledge of medical terms, proofreading.
  • Hours: 10–20 hrs/week
  • Experience: 2–3 yrs
  • Pay: $75–$120 per audio hour.

5. Subtitler & Captioner

  • Requirements: Native English, captioning software, ability to create/edit .srt and .scc files, follow FCC standards.
  • Hours: 1–10 hrs/week
  • Experience: 2–3 yrs
  • Pay: $50–$80 per audio hour.

6. Legal Transcriber

  • Requirements: Native English, 50+ WPM, transcription software, knowledge of legal terminology & AAERT rules.
  • Hours: 1–5 hrs/week
  • Experience: 2–3 yrs
  • Pay: $75–$120 per audio hour.

7. Spanish Transcriber / Translator

  • Requirements: Native Spanish + English, 50+ WPM, transcription software, proofreading, formatting.
  • Hours: 5–10 hrs/week
  • Experience: 1–2 yrs
  • Pay: $66–$150 per audio hour.

8. As-Broadcast List Transcriber

  • Requirements: 75+ WPM, transcription software, dialogue accuracy, timecodes.
  • Hours: 5–10 hrs/week
  • Experience: 2–3 yrs
  • Pay: $75–$120 per audio hour.

9. CCSL (Combined Continuity & Spotting List) Transcriber

  • Role: Create scripts with full audiovisual details of movies/TV shows.
  • Requirements: 75+ WPM, transcription software, frame-accurate timecodes, technical detail.
  • Hours: 5–10 hrs/week
  • Experience: 3–5 yrs
  • Pay: $330–$360 per audio hour.

10. Dialogue List Transcriber

  • Requirements: Native English, 75+ WPM, transcription software, timecodes, dialogue accuracy.
  • Hours: 5–10 hrs/week
  • Experience: 2–3 yrs
  • Pay: $60–$90 per audio hour.

General Notes for All Roles

  • Type: Independent contractor (1099).
  • Training: DT provides style guides, practice files, and QC feedback.
  • Location: Most transcription roles restricted to U.S., Canada, or native-English countries. Translation & captioning roles open to bilingual applicants worldwide.
  • Payment: Weekly. U.S./Canada by check; international via PayPal or other arrangements.
  • Age Requirement: 18+
