Microsoft Office skillsKnowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Internet connectionHigh-speed broadband access.
File/audio handlingAbility to do file conversion / audio manipulation.

Also, you should have these traits:

  • Keen eye for detail, high accuracy.
  • Reliability and dedication.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and make tough editorial decisions.
  • Flexibility for irregular hours; sometimes work may come with non-standard schedules.

What to Expect

  • They do transcription with a variety of specialisms: medical, legal, general, etc.
  • Subtitling and closed-captioning roles include tasks like timing, formatting, video editing, translation (where applicable).
  • Workflow likely includes variability: different project formats, variable audio quality.
